Hi, all,
I have a screenles cel phone. It's called the owasys 22c, and it is made in the staes by a company called Capital Accessibility. Have you all seen this phone? It's awesome!!!!

That is cool you think it is awsome! Sof ar, I have not heard good things about it. I'm glad to read someone likes it!

i've seen it, and if you want my honest opinion, for its price, you can get a better nokia phone. the oases phone is a plastic piece of junk, and believe me, i've seen some crap phones on the open market. it's not even triband, or wasn't when i last checked. it has no bluetooth or other connectivity.

Post 4 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Wednesday, 22-Apr-2009 21:47:01

I've heard good things about it but it's still not worth the price in my opinion. Almost six-hundred bucks for a straight phone? And it's not even usable with most of today's service providers.

Post 5 by Feathered Serpent (I can't call it a day til I enter the zone BBS) on Wednesday, 22-Apr-2009 22:08:10

I herd about it but I still don't think that it is worth spending $600 on such a simple phone.
One good thing about it is is that you can get it unlocked and not set to a specific provider.

Years ago, TMobile was offering a deal with the phone. You could get it for something like $199.

No thanks. Not worth it! At all!

Post 8 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Thursday, 23-Apr-2009 13:35:00

i've looked at some so called accessible phones, and they either scream, hey i'm blind! to anyone who catches you using such heaps of junk, or are so lacking in features it makes you want to use the thing as a doorstop. no, get a normal, phone, and put talks on it, or mobilespeak, doesn't matter which, this investment will give you years of use. none of the so called specialist phones are even triband anyway, which is criminal in my view.

Post 9 by Harmony (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Thursday, 23-Apr-2009 15:01:13

I prefer the normal phones with talks on them much better than the owasys. You can't even do half the stuff you can with a normal phone and can only write a text that's about a sentence long before it literally won't let you go any further which is kind of crap.

Post 10 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Friday, 24-Apr-2009 17:07:12

It's a worthless piece of siht. I've got mine, and had used it for over a year. It looks like a stupid tV remote. I wish I could sell the useless piece of plastic on ebay or something, but i don't know anyone who would want to buy one ...

Post 11 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Friday, 24-Apr-2009 18:37:08

Not to mention the voice is incredibly annoying. At least with Talks and Mobile Speak you get a choice of voices.

Post 12 by Brooke (I just keep on posting!) on Friday, 24-Apr-2009 19:05:49

Even at $200, it still wouldn't be worth it.

Post 13 by Austin (the magic fan!) on Friday, 24-Apr-2009 20:55:37

the phone is pure shit. i like my motorola q and mobile speak better thank you vary much. plus no bluetooth and the sspeach sucks on it. the ringtones suck and it is only dual band gsm. it is pure crap in my oppinion. and oh yeah, you can't put new ringtones on it as well.

Post 14 by purple penguin (Don't you hate it when someone answers their own questions? I do.) on Friday, 24-Apr-2009 21:04:09

Agree with everyone else. You are way better off with an accessible phone with Talks or Mobile Speak. I have a Nokia N82 with talks, and it totally rules!

Post 15 by changedheart421 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Friday, 24-Apr-2009 21:13:49

go mobile speak next year I am getting the blackberry one.

Post 16 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Saturday, 25-Apr-2009 0:40:33

yes, these so called phones are so shite. i looked at the oasiis at a confrence, and it was so junky.

Post 17 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Saturday, 25-Apr-2009 1:52:59

I have a Motorola Q with Mobile Speak and all I can say is I'm glad I opted not to buy the 22C. Granted putting Talks or MSS on a regular cell phone does mean you have all these features you still can't necessarily use but the phone and the software combined are still cheaper than the Owasys. Besides, you also get a voice you can actually understand. And while the lady from Capital Accessibility did say people could write their own applications for the phone to make it do more of the things regular cell phones do, frankly I don't see why we should have to resort to that.

Post 18 by jawsgirl87 (Account disabled) on Thursday, 07-May-2009 20:51:28

Well hey now guys, I don't like Mobile Speak. Besides, I am using a mac, so installing talks would be an issue. Give me credit for trying.

Post 19 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Thursday, 07-May-2009 21:00:13

hi jawsgirl. your rant is totally unjustified, as we didn't know you were using a mac before this time, and what stops you from installing talks to the phone anyway? can't you access the internet on a mac? can't you get a card reader? can't you plug it in? can't you copy the talks.sys file to the card? now, can't you get sighted assistance, sorry, if you are a mac user you will need this, unless nokia have come out with a pc suite for the mac, to help you install talks on a suitable phone from your memory card? there, job done. now, please, withdraw your childish rant. thank you.

Post 20 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Friday, 08-May-2009 10:23:19

Any ideas on how I can get rid of the stupid thing? it's in its original box, and I really don't want it anymore.
any takers? Anyone? Or, maybe suggestions of where I can send it ...

Post 21 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Friday, 08-May-2009 17:24:47

Talks only runs on Symbien phones (SP?). So if Jawsgirl's phone doesn't run that OS she couldn't install it.

Post 22 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Friday, 08-May-2009 17:30:51

Then again I just remembered I think she's only using the 22C. So first she'd have to get a suitable phone. I stand by my statemets. I just could not conceive of spending even 250 bucks for a phone that only let you make calls and send small texts, especially with such poor speach quality. Not only that but because they have to import the phone from Europe sometimes they run out and it can take months before they get in a new shipment.

Post 23 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Friday, 08-May-2009 18:07:39

so someone has an oasies 22 they want to get rid of? use it as a doorstop. that's all it's good for.

Post 24 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Friday, 08-May-2009 22:30:28

or I could experiment and see what happens when you put it in a microwave. lol

Post 25 by buschic (Account disabled) on Saturday, 09-May-2009 2:53:41

Hmm, I've heard of the 22c, I've even seen it in person and played with the hunk of crap, I have 2 Nokia Cell phones, one is an older model, the 6620, with a cracked version of Talks on it, the other one is the Nokia 6682RVI from Rogers Wireless here in Canada, I love it, I can do basicially everything a sighted person can do with the phone... so, Yeah, sorry Jawsgirl, but you wont find people giving you good thoughts about the 22c, and just a thought, but have you gone on the Mac forums around the internet or at http://forums.macrumors.com/ or, http://www.apple.com/usergroups/ Both are pretty good resources for assistance... also dont forget that you might want to look into a place that sells unlocked phones, find one that can accecpt TALKS or MOBILE SPEAK, and get a friend to "hack" it for you... I got that done to my old Nokia, and it works fine..

Post 26 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Saturday, 09-May-2009 3:48:58

i woudln't talk about hacks on here, especially considering most of us pay for our software bushik. i pay for all my software, and get into debt to give myself the independance i crave when the state in the UK gives us shit. so i resent the talk of cracks, thank you. and re a microwave verses mobile phone? I know a true story of someone who, after dropping their phone in the washing up, tried drying it out in a microwave. apparently the thing melted, and the smell was horrendous.

Post 27 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Saturday, 09-May-2009 18:18:41

A Nokia 6682? That was what my last phone was and I used Talks on it for a little over two years. Then right before Christmas this last year my mother and I found out that our cell carrier, Edge Wireless, would be bought out by AT&T in May of this year. Unfortunately our phones would no longer be insured or supported. I ended up getting a Windows Smartphone (a Motorola Q9H), and throuh AT&T I was able to get Mobile Speak for maybe half the regular price. The cool thing is I like the voice better than Eloquence, it's one of the Loquendo voices which otherwise are incredibly expensive, and I also can text with an actual computer style keyboard, albeit very small, rather than ushing every button mltile times to get to the letter I want. THis always used to frustrate the bejjesus out of me since I absolutely refuse to use text shorthand. I couldn't imagine doing it on the 22C, which not only does textig the old way but also requires you to wait and hear each letter as you type it before you can go on to the next one.

hmm Jaws girl I don't know much about that phone ya have but I so agree with moble speak users smile!!, I have the mota Q 9C I can use ever part of it. Even the tv though it takes some working with the tv to work the point it works.

Post 29 by monkeypusher69 (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Sunday, 10-May-2009 17:40:58

Well if you are on a mac you can download talks to an micro SD card and put taht in your phone (and with some sighted assistance) install it from the sd card (which i have done ), or do a google (or equivalent search) and see if there is a 3rd party Nokia PC suite like app for the mac, Install windows on your mac and run pc suite that way. or go to a friend who has a pc and install talks from their pc. Oh and if your mac doesn't have a card reader USB to SD card readers with a 8GB micro SD card and the SD to micro SD converter can be had for about $15 to $20 on ebay,

Aw'w'w yikes! Its true what everyone's saying about these animated, child's toy, remote control pieces of shite phones, lol. They look just like those toy phones with the square wave electronic bleeping sounds you had back in the 1980s, a complete and utter, fake, joke, flump and the rest. I just sent mine back where I got it and told them in the covering letter those phones were worth about 50 P, not £300 each and a two-year-old would get more fun out of them than an adult, lol. Seriously Jawsgirl87, a Nokia N95/N96, rules. I got my N96 2 weeks ago last Thursday and both me and my Bf are never getting new phones now we have our N96 phones. They, are, everything you could possibly need in your lifetime in a handset the size of two credit cards.

Jen.

O yeah, I forgot, the Nokia N96 only costs around £150 (think that's oo, about $300) from Amazon. Do not go carphone warehouse, they rip you off big time, selling you the phone for nearly £500/$700 when you could get it so, so much cheaper online as I did.

Post 33 by monkeypusher69 (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Tuesday, 12-May-2009 13:57:14

Maybe its time to start checking some of the european version of these websites, cuz idon't remember seeing the n95/ n96 for $300 when looking around ofr it on sites in the states, and granted the prices i saw them for is still cheaper and or more worth it than what they are charging for the under featured screenless cell phone. I wonder how much those european/uk sites would charge to ship to the states?

Post 34 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Thursday, 14-May-2009 13:23:04

Not only that but my friend Marissa has also used the 22C for a number of years. Well yesterday while speaking with her on the phone I found out that her 22C is beginning to go. Nothing a call to Capital Accessibility couldn't fix, or so one would think. Well Marissa's been trying to get a hold of someone there for about three weeks with no luck. That, as far as I'm concerned, is totally unacceptable. She's left I don't know how many messages and nobody's gotten back to her. Again, totally inexcusable. If we're going to get poor customer service on a product which has to be imported from Europe to begin with before it even ships to us, a product which seems only to last a year or two if even that, then I'd definitely pay the extra to install Mobile Speak on a regular phone. And AT&T has a deal where you can get Mobile Speak at a fraction of the cost if you're a customer.
